『CHESS THE MUSICAL』あらすじ詳細昨日の続きである。舞台は『第二幕』へと移る。
＜第二幕＞
★ゴールデン・バンコク（GOLDEN BANGKOK）
1年後、舞台はタイのバンコクに移る。
★ワン・ナイト・イン・バンコク（ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK）
今年の『ワールド・CHESS・チャンピョンシップ』大会がタイのバンコクで行なわれようとしていた。現在の世界チャンピョンは西側に亡命したアナトリー。彼の対戦者は挑戦者のロシア人の“CHESS・マシーン”ことレノイド・ビガンド。アナトリーのタイトル防衛戦だ。昨年とは逆の立場だ。しかも今年は自由主義国の代表として、ソ連のチャンピョンと戦わなければならない。このソ連の挑戦者ビガンドはやはり、モロコフとその仲間達にコントロール（洗脳）されている。昨年までの世界チャンピョンのフレディは、今はCHESS・プレイヤーからは引退し、この競技会にはTVのコメンテーターとしてやってきた。フレディは、プレイヤーの重圧から解放されてリラックスしているようで、メラノとはまったく対照的なバンコクの怪しげな魅力には無関心だ。
＊「ワン・ナイト・イン・バンコク」を最初に歌ったのは『ジーザス・クライスト・スーパースター』のオリジナル・アルバムに出演したマレー・ヘッド（初代フレディ）だった。彼がふてぶてしく歌うこの曲は1984年、世界中でヒットし〝全米3位〟になった。エレイン・ペイジとバーバラ・ディクソンが歌った「アイ・ノウ・ヒム・ソウ・ウエル」も世界的に同じくヒットしたが、日本では「ワン・ナイト・イン・バンコク」の方が、レコード店では頻繁に流れていた。

光陰失の如しっていうわけさ、彼はもう必要ないね
去年の舞台はチロリアン、今年のCHESSの舞台はココ、バンコク
何もかもが変わっただと？
勘違いは困るな、CHESSはそんじゃそこらのショーじゃないぜ
なんだって、どこで開催しても変わらないだって？
アイスランド、フィリピン、ヘイスティンブに、でもココはバンコクだぜ

★議論（ONE MORE OPPONENT）
フローレンスとアナトリーがホテルに居る。二人はアナトリーの亡命以来恋人同志である。彼らは新しい挑戦者のこと、何故フレディがバンコクに来ているのか？何故彼がメラノでの彼の敗戦以来、真剣にCHESSをやらなくなったのか？そしてアナトリーの妻、スヴェトラーナがバンコクに来るという情報があるがなぜだ？と様々な疑問について論じている。
★ユー・アンド・アイ（YOU AND I）
それでもアナトリーとフローレンスはやっと手に入れた幸せを手放したくない、きっと幸せになれるはずだとお互い、自分に言い聞かせる。
＊『CHESS』は「監督」によって内容がかなり変わります。今回は試合が始まる前に設定してありますが、中には試合が始まったあとだけ「ユー・アンド・アイ」を歌わせる監督も居ます。
＊「ユー・アンド・アイ」は当初、第二幕の一番最後に歌う曲でしたが、近年、第二幕の最初（ワン・ナイト・イン・バンコクの後）と、一番最後に歌うパターンが増えて来ました。「曲名」は同じでも、歌詞の内容は違います。
＊映像は初代フローレンスの「エレイン・ペイジ」と初代アナトリーの「トミー・シェルベリ」。

★CHESSマシーン（THE SOVIET MACHINE）
モロコフとソ連一行が集まり、KGBお得意の盗聴でアナトリーとフローレンスの会話を聞いている。モロコフと彼のチームは異常に自信を抱いている。ソ連の新チャンピオンはいささかおかしな変人で、CHESSをしている時のみフル回転できる機能を備えた男なのだ。そう彼の名はビガンド、通称“CHESS・マシーン”。CHESS以外には関心ごとがなく、CHESSをするときは正確な戦いをし、間違う手を見たことがない。しかもその集中⼒たるや、アナトリーよりも断然⾼い。モロコフ⼀⾏はこのCESSマシーン・ビガンドを褒めたたえ、その代わりに、フローレンスと共に亡命したアナトリーを「裏切り者」と罵倒しまくる。
